2006 Domaine de Montille Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Épenots

When pinot noir hits a sweet spot, it is really something remarkable: light yet powerful, pure and fine yet heartwarming. Such is the case with the 2006 Pommard Les Grands Épenots from the de Montille family – yes, the ones you saw in Mondovino, with the high contrast between the father, Hubert, and the son, Étienne. From a rather average vintage, this organically-farmed Pomamrd shows a beautiful, well-defined expression of pinot noir, with a lot of bright cherry and plum aromas, a touch of spiciness and cedar, along with earthy undertones, good acid, great intensity and wonderful length and persistence. Mature and well-integrated, showing a clean, pure aromatic line, it has several good years in it yet. Highly recommended. RC
