2012 Stony Lonesome Estates Sauvignon Blanc

88.jpg

This is a very interesting blend of New Zealand and California styles of Sauvignon Blanc. The nose shows the feline aromas so common in Kiwi wines, with tropical fruits, passionfruit, dragon fruit, and fried plantains, more familiar in wines from northern California. Tropical fruits are prevalent on the palate, too, keeping the passionfruit, the fried plantains, crisp sweet edges and all, but loses the smoky depth of the dragon fruit. Grassy notes come out on the mid-palate and are joined by fresh-squeezed lemon, to hang on through the finish. The mouth feel is surprisingly soft, full, and round. Drink with fried fish and coleslaw. Recommended. 88 points.
