What We’re Drinking – Gilgal Sangiovese 2014

Color is a medium translucent garnet. Candied cherries come through on the nose. On the palate, cherries and wild strawberries, far more tart than the nose, shine through. There is a light spritz of lime on the mid-palate, then the red fruit come back for the finish, with peppery spices. Tannins are light but established enough to offer counter-point to bright acidity. This is a bright, balanced, quaffable and food-friendly wine. Drink with lentils over rice. Recommended. 87 points. DBH
