Bastianich 2010 Adriatico Friulano

They used to call it tokay or tocai friulano, but because of European restrictions on words that can identify a wine (think “Champagne,” for instance), the grape became known as simply “friulano,” to appease the Hungarians of Tokaji. Whatever one wants to call it, it is a delicious wine, one of the indigenous varieties that makes the whites of Friuli some of the best in Italy. This is an excellent example of what friulano can do, with an excellent QPR. The nose is bright and expressive, with notes reminiscent of stonefruit, raw almond, with a nice floral undertone. The mouth is intense, substantial yet fresh, with good length and a clean, aromatic finish. Great with white meats or hard cheeses, among other things.  Highly recommended. RC
